Jacó will have a party during its first Carnival from July 4 to 8, 2019. The area, already boasting so many tourist offerings, will offer even more fun, both to locals and visitors from elsewhere in Costa Rica and abroad.
The event was announced by the Municipality of Garabito which aims to provide new entertainment options for both tourists and the local community. Although Jacó is already a focus of important tourist attention in Costa Rica, the tradition suits it well.
During the event, Jacó will host many sports activities. For example, surfing exhibitions and competitions. Other attractions will add to the party atmosphere, such as the “tope” or horseback riding parade, and traditional Costa Rican style bullfights (where no bull is stabbed or killed) will be present. Of course, the carnival parades with elaborate costumes and fancy dance moves cannot be missed.
On the other hand, there will be an international concert with salsa artist Huey Dunbar, former member of the DLG group. Groups such as Los Ajenos and La Fiesta del Agua will also be presenting their shows.
The event will kick-off on Thursday July 4 at 12:oo, at the fairground. Then, at 7:00 p.m there will be bullfights.
On Friday, the focus will be on beach volleyball, boxing, surfing, among others.
On Saturday there will be a cycling competition called Ruta Rural (Rural Route), which will cover the contours of the canton of Garabito. That same day at 1:00 pm will begin Huey Dunbar’s concert, and at 6:00 pm it will be the tope’s horseback riders that will parade down Pastor Díaz Avenue.
Jacó is attractive not only because of the natural scenery it boasts and its tourism infrastructure. Its location is also practical, given its proximity to the San José Airport (SJO) and the Greater Metropolitan Area of San José-Heredia-Alajuela and Cartago.
